i can also build stuff

i had to come up with the concept, then design and build a picnic structure.

just because i'm a city girl, and always busy, the only time i would actually go have picnic with Victor would be at night. therefore, i thought of making a picnic table that can be used at night, on the top of a roof, in the city...theme: night sky. :)

the instructions were like this:
- build out of 4'X8' piece of ply wood
- should sit 2 people, each weighing 165 lbs.
- chairs can't be taller than 16"
- the whole structure has to fit in a 5'x1' space
- has to be put together and taken apart in less than 2 minutes.

after weeks of drawing, redrawing, measuring and making a bunch of mini-models, i got to the cutting the wood part. I wish i'd have pictures taken during that process - me, at 7.30 AM, using wood cutting power tools, very noisy and messy...and i still have all my fingers! yay!
the wood cutting was actually pretty fun, I can see myself getting into that.

the table leg and getting the chairs to sustain someone that has 165 lbs were the hardest part. Designing them so that the whole structure looks as one piece, maintaining the theme consistency ...so complicated! But eventually I figured it out, and I think it works pretty good. It all bends up and it has a lot of hinges, etc. etc.

aaaanyways: i give you my "Starlight" picnic structure! yay!
